How RBS turns human capital into business valuE

An interview with Greig Aitken, Head of Human Capital Strategy, Royal Bank of Scotland Group

The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is one of the leading exponents of human capital management and measurement. In this interview, Greig Aitken explains how the bank has achieved what many other organizations strive for, but few achieve: a measurable link between investment in people and performance.

Among other things, he talks about the way in which RBS has made human capital measurement meaningful to line managers, the importance of measuring outputs and not just expenditure on training and other people investments, and the value of taking employee surveys seriously and following through with action plans that raise performance. He also gives some cautionary advice on the proper use of benchmarking.
