Yorkshire Water Services

Written by Mike Smith, Director of Human Resources

Summary

Yorkshire Water Services has created an HR scorecard to ensure that people strategies are robust and aligned to business strategies. This Case Study explains how the HR scorecard was created and highlights the benefits, to both the business and HR, thus far secured.

Background

Headquartered in Bradford, UK, Yorkshire Water Services provides about 1.7 million households and around 140,000 businesses with water and sewerage services. We supply around 1.24 billion litres of drinking water each day (the equivalent of a glass of water for every person on the planet) and collect, treat and dispose of about one billion litres of waste water safely back into the environment every day.

With about 2200 employees generating an annual turnover in the region of ££550 million, Yorkshire Water Services has a vision 'to be known as the best water company in the UK'. We support this with a mission to 'provide best value'. By best value we mean lowest cost and the highest levels of service and compliance. As measures of this, our average water bill to customers is £10 less than the UK average and we were recently awarded a prestigious Charter Mark for excellence in the provision of customer service.3
