OPERA NORTH Summary 1. When Paul Gauntlett joined Opera North as communications director, one of his Ūrst tasks was to create an internal communication strategy. 2. There was a need to promote understanding between various groups of employees such as artists and technical staff. 3. This required engaging with the overall corporate strategy as well as the communications strategy. Opera North is a national touring company based at the Grand Theatre and Opera House in Leeds in Britain. Established in 1978, the company tours principally in the north of England, but also throughout Britain and internationally. When Paul Gauntlett joined Opera North as communications director in March 2000, there was no internal communication structure to speak of. Faced with a clean page, he and his colleagues set out to determine which communications competencies the organization needed. They then developed a strategy to put those in place.
