Phil Porter Phil's Porter's track record is a good case in point (see curriculum vitae, Table 7.11). Like many senior HR practitioners, early on his career he achieved a good grounding in the professional aspects of his work including recruitment, selection, compensation and benefits, as well as management organization development. He also worked for a series of US-led corporations where integrated teams of line and specialist managers worked on strategic cross-functional projects. At General Electric he recruited new management teams to support the company's change in direction from product to international consulting. He later partnered a project with a series of vice presidents and general managers, assessing key staff for succession planning and development purposes. At Digital, building on this experience, he pioneered a new business partnership with the vice president of software and systems integration and the vice president of information services Ð both of whom lay at the heart of the company's operations.
